The current BelfastRuby.org site has been up and running for the last 10 years 🎂, with only a few updates since 2017. I think it’s high time we gave it a fresh coat of paint and breathed new life into it! 🛠️ This discussion is a placeholder for sharing ideas, inspiration, and any thoughts you might have about creating a new site.
💡 We don’t necessarily need to stick with Ruby/Jekyll for the build—what’s more important is that the site serves as a hub for our community, helping us foster engagement and keeping the spirit of Ruby alive in Belfast. While Ruby and Rails might not be as popular as they were back in 2014, they still have a strong community and dedicated followers. ❤️
📢 Let’s Discuss:
Content 📝: What type of content should we focus on? Tutorials, articles, events, or showcasing local Ruby projects?
Technology Stack 💻: Should we keep things in Ruby/Jekyll, or explore something new that’s easier to maintain?
Community Features 🤝: How can the site help grow and support the Belfast Ruby community? Forums or project showcases?
Design & Branding 🎨: What kind of visual style should we aim for? Since we aren't designers a template of sorts?
Accessibility & Mobile Experience 📱: How can we ensure the site is accessible and looks great on all devices, maybe using a template solves this implicitly? Thought it was worth calling out regardless.
Integration with Social Media 📣: How can we connect with the wider Ruby community and beyond?
Let’s get this conversation started! Your input is invaluable, and together, we can build something that truly represents the Belfast Ruby community. 💬
