We could have a discussion about the pros and cons of different computer hardware. Might be helpful for new students to hear about the experience and what works for others. E.g., Mac versus PC versus Linux; desktop versus laptop.

Maybe "essential software" could be handy too. E.g., bibliography managers, development environments, package managers, ...
