===========

Dear all,

I am the tech lead of a software company that is mainly serving the maritime sector: http://arskom.com.tr

We have noticed that the zyGrib (it's a pun for "The Grib", n'est-ce pas?) project is being used by our clients extensively. As Qt apps written in C++ is one of our areas of expertise, we decided to offer infrastructure help (and maybe engineering help in the future, but I'm not promising anything yet) for future development of zyGrib.

I'd like to note that we are fully committed to preserve the free nature of the Project. It will be kept as GPL, and the source code will always be made available via Arskom's Github page: https://github.com/arskom

To prevent any confusion in the zyGrib community, we have renamed the project to amp-grib. Our fork of the code can be found at: https://github.com/arskom/amp-grib

We have done some discovery work on the codebase. This means we ran some basic checks for code health and 1) fixed the coding style, 2) got rid of important compiler warnings. We also integrated the project on our internal build farm and will start providing nightly builds for windows and mac shortly.

We will then make sure to start a test suite and integrate it with a free test infrastructure provider in order to be able to accept contributions without breaking existing functionality.

We strongly believe that any further work on the zyGrib codebase, be it under amp-grib umbrella or not, should be based on our version of the code as some important fixes were done to avoid undefined behavior and other easily avoidable errors. For example: 0fb6f78

I'm sorry to inform that I won't be monitoring this forum very closely as the amount of email I deal with is already above my limit. Please file issues on the github page.

We currently have no plans to take over the infractructure for managing the download of the grib files yet, we'd like to see first how the community responds to our efforts.

All the best, be safe out there!
Burak ARSLAN

Chers Tous,

Bien cordialement,
Burak
