Automation is laggy in crossover

Running this through crossover in order to load Windows VST's on my Mac, works very well apart from the automation which is really laggy and starts crackling the audio. Specifically I am trying to use the Bifilter2 plugin and the cpu spikes from ~20% normally to 60-70% when it tries to play an automation.

I seem to only have this issue using it with crossover (a windows wine emulator).

EDIT: The CPU usage is better using VST3. It is really bad with the AU version of the plugin
