Mat-chip disappears on hover

Bug, feature request, or proposal:

Hovering over remove icon and back to mat-chip makes mat-chip invisible.

What is the expected behavior?

Mat-chip will be visible under all cimcurstances.

What is the current behavior?

Mat-chip blinks and sometimes it visually disappears.

What are the steps to reproduce?

Hover over remove icon and then hover over mat-chip.

Which versions of Angular, Material, OS, TypeScript, browsers are affected?

Angular version: 7.1.0, Mac Safari Version 11.1

Is there anything else we should know?

I cannot reproduce this in Safari v12.

I cannot reproduce this in Safari v12.

I reproduced this bug on Safari version 12.0.3 as well.
Detailed steps to reproduce:

1. Hover over the text of mat-chip e.g. "Lemon".
2. Hover over mat-icon with class mat-chip-remove related to the same mat-chip.
3. Check whether the mat-chip blinks or visually disappears or not.
4. Repeat several times.
