I started esniper-manager... then renamed my auction file.

The esniper entry in ps aux changed to [esniper] <defunct> but it did not start a new one for the new filename until I restarted esniper-manager via supervisor.

Not sure if esniper-manager doesn't handle file renaming or if it's a problem running under supervisord

That's not a problem with supervisord. The culprit here is esniper-manager. The child process will remain a zombie (defunct) until the parent asks for its exit status.
While a zombie is not a problem per se, it can be annoying to have hundreds of them floating around for no reason.
