Investigating buildings and landlords in Bushwick

The Bushwick Community Map is a project designed help organizers and community members better understanding the buildings and landlords in Bushwick. The map is still a work-in-progress and, of course, doesn’t contain all possible housing information that you might want. This docuement provides some more resources for retriving housing data and resarching the real-estate villains in Bushwick.

Our Map

Here you can find our main map which will show you:

FAR

DOB permits

Likely rent-stabilized proprieties

Vacant land

Year the buildings were built.

We hope to have evictions and violations there soon.

Rent-Stabilized Properties

This map lists all of the rent-stabilized properties derrived from owner registrations with DHCR. The data comes with a few caveats: The rent stabilization data is slightly out-of-date because DHCR hasn’t updated their public information since 2012. The list is not 100% complete, so if determining the status is extremely critical, you will still have to contact DHCR. Additionally, not all the units inside the building are necessarily rent-stabilized.

There is also a Brooklyn-wide version.

On the map, when you click on a rent-stabilized property you will be see a pop-up with two links to ACRIS (finance and deed information) and DOB (building information and violations).

Government sources

Our maps are compiled from government sources. Sometimes you might want to go to the source.

PLUTO

This is a released twice a year from the Department of City Planning. Besides city planning data, it also contains information from other agencies. You can access the data on the DCP’s website.

ACRIS

This the way to access data from the Department of Finance. Here you will find deed transactions as well as mortgage information. This is the best way find who owner a building. Very often the owner is listed as a LLC or a company, but ACRIS will allow you to read the entire deed transfer documents, which can provide clues as to who the people are behind the companies.

Click here to go to ACRIS

Department of Buildings

The Building information search from the DOB can be a very powerful tool to do research. Here you can look up an individual buildings and find all the complaints, permits, and applications. You can also search by community district.

HPD

HPD’s tool, HpdOnline, will allow you to look up active and past HPD complaints and violations on a property.
