I am collecting here some ideas of things that users have been frequently asking during the internal release, it could be a good idea to add those into the manual:

  • How to import a S4L project (e.g. mention that you can import folders)
  • What happens to running simulations when you go back to the dashboard? This can also be an idea to "save some money", i.e. don't leave the GUI open if you don't need it
  • ...
(We can all update this list based on our experience).

  • Autosave
    The followings apply for sim4life.io, sim4life 8.0.0 v 3.2.12 and higher:
    1. When you close a study (sim4life), we automatically save the project (Name will be AutoSave.smash if there was none previously)
    2. When you submit a job, the project is also saved (like in the desktop app)
    3. In addition, we have the autosave on (at the time of the s4l-lite release, we could not store the projects), This saves you project automatically ever x minutes. I am working on disabling this.
    4. we are working on mechanism that logs you out after some inactivity and also auto saves the project.

  • Video streaming (although it is in manual, better to put also in FAQ)
  • The simulation hangs when I run it on an external cluster
  • List of missing tools/features compared to Desktop

  • Run options for GPU accelerated FDTD simulations

    • Run Simulation: runs in the same machine in aws where you have the sim4life backend running. This is currently a computer with 16 CPU cores, 64 GB of RAM and 16 GB of a T4 NVIDIA gpu. If you run with that option, you need to keep the gui open until its done.
    • SMALL & MEDIUM Options (with the cloud symbol) will run your simulations detached from the GUI (so you can log out and come back later). Options there for moment are (becomes visible in tooltip if you hover over the buttons)
SMALL: 8 CPU cores, 32 GB RAM, 24 GB of a A10G NVIDIA card
      MEDIUM: 48 CPU cores, 192 GB RAM, 4 x A10G NVIDIA card with 4 x 24 GB Video RAM
  • Run options for LF solvers and neuron solvers

Suggestion: call "videostreaming" differently, when we go public. People outsize Z43 I doubt will understand (I have the impression this is a technical term we got used to as the team used it a lot to explain).

From a non-Z43 user perspective, I'd suggest to call it "3D Rendering" or "3D Model View" or "3D Model Interactive View".

I agree.
