it says that you tried to place a "down" variant of alkimium smeltery, which doesn't exist. could you tell me how you got this error in the first place / what you were doing right before getting the error?

FWIW: I encountered this issue with 1.3.1 and can replicate simply by starting a new singleplayer world, enabling cheats and using JEI to obtain planarartifice:alkimium_smeltery

After updating to 1.4.0-pre7, I was able to spawn the item and place it with no issue.

I have a couple of server players (1.3.1) who were crashing the server just by possessing the item in their inventory.

When I have rolled out the 1.4.0-pre7 update, I will post back to confirm if this has, in my case, resolved the problem.
