As per the MineCraft Music wiki entry, various (high quality) background music is needed. Granted access to such music, this is a great way to instantly (well quickly at least, given implementation woes) improve atmosphere thus immersion. There's also the need (and existing support) for main menu music.
In my opinion, none of the music in currently existing Minetest so called "ambient mods" suffices. However, there's a ~40 score set of original music composed explicitly for Minetest, though not implemented in a mod, yet. It provides ambient music for daytime, nighttime, different biomes and so on.
I think MineClone and the composer both could benefit greatly from bringing this collection into MineClone. The license seems submissive too ("To use commercially").
If not this music is favorable then the issue addresses the general need for background music, no matter the source.
