for Windows (using Cygwin), you can use the following commands
gcc -o FILE.exe FILE.c -lgl -lglu -lglut -lopengl32 startx (gives you xterm window) ./FILE.exe
for Mac, you can use the following commands
gcc -o FILE FILE.c -framework GLUT -framework OpenGL ./FILE
