Hi @sebjf ! I am actually an outsider to your community. Your project looks absolutely amazing and fulfills some of the aspirations of Project Komodo here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I really appreciate seeing your mature documentation and infrastructure and project vision. Because our projects share a lot of the same goals, I thought it would be good to connect so we could learn from you. And perhaps we have some useful things to share as well!

Thank you for reaching out, it's great to hear from like-minded teams!

Project Komodo looks like a really nice project. I see you have some successful faculty collaborations. It's good to see similar projects getting traction.

Ubiq has just reached its first stable milestone where we can spend as much time addressing user feedback as adding new features. Ubiq is its second year supporting our VR module, and our students are just starting their programming coursework, so we are looking forward to how they get on with the latest changes. A number of experiments using it have been running a while too for which we've gotten good feedback. Our next major feature is WebXR support (through Unity).

It would be good to exchange notes, especially your experience of nurturing collaborations and users, and where the friction is between the developers' models of how things should work vs. the expectations of non-networking experts. As a use-case for Ubiq is to teach networked VR itself, there is a fine line between performance and accessibility of the code which is a challenge to walk, but one hopefully we've managed so far.

We are also open to collaborations if this is something you'd be interested in too.
Off the top of my head (as a CS group...) given the importance of interoperability for the future of social VR, connecting our two systems could be an interesting demo or paper. Of course it depends on what research questions you're most interested in for Komodo. We are happy to just chat!
