selecting/deselecting data sets causes white screen intermittently

When selecting or deselecting imported data sets (eg KML) from the workbench (ie ticking the box), intermittently (in fact, most times) the screen goes white and no map is displayed. To display the map again, one needs to reload the browser page and this unfortunately loses any data files that were loaded before by the user, therefore those data files need to be re-imported in the map.

Errors in the browser's Dev Tools Console are pasted below. Please note that the [mobx] error occurs when selecting/deselecting the data set.
