Is there any chance a version of this can be made to work with the Fedora/RHEL/CentOS family of operating systems?

+1 - this currently isn't being captured well by other roles on Galaxy.

There currently isn't a widely supported role for Mongo on
RHEL/CentOS. Ideally the Stouts role would support this but it doesn't
currently, see: Stouts/Stouts.mongodb#22.
