Should be covered in the readme, but to summarize:
The digital mixer ("DMIX") uses a simple smoothed ramp to avoid popping. It
has otherwise linear silence characteristics.
Vactrols are basically asymmetric slew limiters with a non-linear output.
Sound will fade in and out with a biased curve and they will go quieter
slower than they go louder.
In practice the effects are subtle and probably not noticable, but if your
control signals flap on and off very quickly you might start hearing a
difference.
