ORCID
Our community is tremendously helpful, and many of them already have a presence in cited material such as academic papers. I'd like to reward their contributions with further citations.
See
nc-time-axis/CITATION.cff
for an example of what this could look like.We have discussed in #5483 and #5161 possibly listing ORCIDs in a
CITATION.cff
file, but a significant blocker has been the volume of work to collate this and where to draw the line. So I am raising this separate discussion to capture this as a debatable ambition, rather than a blocker to current citation improvements. My proposal (pending the introduction of
CITATION.cff
in #5483):CITATION.cff
with the current team of active maintainers.CITATION.cff
.This avoids maintainers having to collate everyone themselves.
This avoids maintainers having to make tough judgement calls. It should be pretty obvious if anyone has made a cynical request after fixing a single unimportant typo (for example).
