After installing the JRE and JDK, I finally got everything to launch in the browser and I was able to select the sample "images" (they show on my Mac as C header files) but then when I hit "Start Hunting" it tells me "failed to create the session".
I looked in the console and there was nothing specific to the error just stuff about running Java. I checked the terminal and it was just sitting there with all the launch lines and the last was "java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:745)"
I'm on Java 8 update 40. I checked the Java Control panel and the only thing I can think is that the section that says "Java Runtime Environment Settings" only has this one entry for both user and System:
"1.8 1.8.0_40 http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java "
The only certificate I have installed is for Oracle itself.
Not sure what else to try because the PDF does not include this exception. Wish I knew what to do this would be cool to try. In fact, makes me think it would make a great app for iPad and iPhone.

I also added http://localhost:8080/ to the trust list.
