Separate GET and POST request explanation

In the 'Creating additional REST resources' section, the last paragraph mentions that, 'if you are consuming a REST resource from a third party service, you should separate your GET and POST requests from your data consumption'.

It may be worth clarifying the reasoning for this just as background knowledge, as no explanation as to why separation of GET/POST requests is provided.
