Description of the issue

multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is a term used in the definitions of the tasks module (see #1891). As decided in the dev meeting there should be a separate issue to discuss the definition.

Ideas of solution

I propose this definition:
multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is a methodology to help with decision making by defining goals, priorities and weights.

Workflow checklist

  • I discussed the issue with someone else than me before working on a solution
  • I already read the latest version of the workflow for this repository
  • The goal of this ontology is clear to me

I am aware that

  • every entry in the ontology should have a definition
  • classes should arise from concepts rather than from words

A project partner used the terms MCDM (multi-criteria decision making) and MCDA interchangable in a paper we wrote together (https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-02907-4_1) with the definition “an umbrella term to describe a collection of formal approaches, which seek to take explicit account of multiple criteria in helping individuals or groups explore decisions that matter”, which is from page 2 of (Belton, V., & Stewart, T. (2012). Multiple criteria decision analysis: an integrated approach. Springer Science & Business Media. https://books.google.de/books?id=AYYHCAAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover)

This definition comes close to fully describing the term, but I would maybe also include something about the fact that you are comparing several different options. Maybe:
multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is a decision-making methodology for comparing goals and outcomes by assigning weights to various criteria.
