Question: hikey_debian working monitors #93
Comments
@acarb95 This isn't really an OP-TEE related issue. You can maybe try to ask for an update on the bug report itself. In any case, see if https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aYNUlGx5J8RmfWrtML4lFJ-7tV8u-3AH_3IaiOlWfoE ("HiKey Monitor Compatibility" - not an exhaustive list) can be of any help. |
@vchong I understand it's not directly OP-TEE related (sorry for cluttering the issues), but I've had better luck with people responding here, which is why I thought I'd give it a try. I was hoping somebody using OP-TEE might be using hikey_debian with a monitor that worked. I've already asked for an update on the bug report back in September and another person posted asking for an update recently with no response. The bug was first reported January 25th and since then has no activity except for people asking for updates. Unfortunately, since it is a kernel bug, the list of monitors isn't helpful as I do not know which monitor has been tested with the rpk 4.9+. Any monitor that worked before is not guaranteed to work on rpk 4.9+. Is there maybe a users mailing list I can try? Since the bug report is unresponsive, I'm at a loss as to who else I can contact for help. |
@acarb95 We've pinged the 96boards team internally. Hopefully someone updates the ticket. In the meantime, if you feel up for it, maybe try https://github.com/96boards-hikey/linux/commits/hikey-4.9 or https://github.com/96boards-hikey/linux/commits/hikey-mainline-rebase (this is more for aosp) to see if the problem goes away. |
@acarb95 For future references, you can also try the 96boards forum (https://discuss.96boards.org) and the mailing lists are here: https://lists.96boards.org/mailman/listinfo. Just out of curiosity, does it panic if you plug in the monitor after boot? |
Oh, forgot to add that there's also a weekly videocast(?) called the 96boards Open Hours where you can attend and ask questions. Details here: https://www.96boards.org/openhours (including irc channels). |
@vchong Thank you! I'll take a look at the forums, videos, and mailing list as well. With rpk v4.9 the board panics with HDMI plugged in and when I plug the HDMI in after boot nothing displays but it does not panic. I've upgraded to v4.14 which does not panic but throws an error (memory allocation fails) both when the HDMI is plugged in at boot and when I plug it in after booting. |
@acarb95 Np and good luck. Maybe also try connecting to any TVs you have access to as well for comparisons. |
There is a bug in the Linaro rpk (already filed) which causes a kernel panic in linux 4.9 and errors in later versions (up to 4.14) when an HDMI monitor is plugged in. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any response on the bug for just over a year.
I'm curious if anybody has a monitor which works with the hikey_debian build OP-TEE 2.5.0 or later? If you do, could you send me the exact make, model, year?
Also, if this isn't the right place to ask, let me know where I should direct this question.
