Cannot highlight text in the message field using the mouse

Describe the bug

The text in the message input field cannot be highlighted using the mouse.

To Reproduce

1. Type some text into the message field (alternatively, start editing a message)
2. Hit CTRL+RIGHT ARROW and observe the text get highlighted
3. Try highlighting text with the mouse by clicking and dragging. No text is highlighted

What happened?
