This is a very cool tool, and I was able to get a short demo running on my side. If you're looking for suggestions, I do have a few feature requests.

  • Starting location/zoom based on location/extent of the geospatial data objects. The map seems to center over Denver by default...
  • A legend with colors of technologies, etc.
  • Hover info on generators/transmission lines.
  • An option for some sort of stacked bar/area chart with generation by type in regions (stretch request). Would also require generators to be associated with regions.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. The features you mention are in-line with future development efforts that I have in mind.

  • For the stacked bar/area chart, the plan is to allow any geojson or shapefile to be uploaded and the server side will handle the spatial joins to automatically group the generators by region. You could upload multiple region files and choose a dropdown item to view aggregate generation at various levels. You would be able to hover or click on a region and show the aggregate time series data.
  • Similarly, for hover information on generators and transmission, being able to click and "pop out" the time series data so that it updates with the rest of the animation.
  • I agree with the legend information and am currently working on a fix for this.
  • For starting/zoom location, I'm thinking of ways to save the whole view state to also save scaling features etc. (So you don't have to restyle the visualization every time you open a scenario).

Great, glad to hear that these are already being considered. My front-end experience is limited to some basic dashboards and python libraries, so this is much nicer than what I could put together. Happy to provide feedback on features or additional testing from users at Princeton's ZERO Lab if you're interested at any point.

Thanks, it would be great to have some more users test the application, perhaps when the next suite of features are ready. Always happy to hear any feedback.
