Enhanced ID and research for Names and Observations

Should Names and Observations have more links to external websites?

Examples:

• Observations in California have a link to Fungi of California
• Observations in the Pacific Northwest have a link to Danny Miller's PNW Pictorial Key
• Observations currently ID'ed in (or perhaps with a Proposed Name in) Boletaceae or Suilaceae have a link to The Bolete Filter
• Observations/Names in Cortinariaceae have a link to Liimatainen et al. Taming the beast: a revised classification of Cortinariaceae based on genomic data. Fungal Diversity 112, 89–170 (2022). https://doi.org/10.1007/s13225-022-00499-9

These kinds of links would

• Help beginning and advanced IDers;
• Help users who want to explore taxonomy;
• Help differentiate MO and iNat. I think iNat will never have anything like this.

Some issues

• How to add new links. In the short run I could hard-code them. (I have one such link in Name external links #1884 -- a link to Ascomycete.org for Names classified in Ascomycota.) But that won't last; we'd need a UI so the could be added on-the-fly by admins or trusted users. Maybe an expanded version of the current External Link thingy?
• Where to put the links. They could get large. They probably belong in their own panel. Maybe in a modal. IMO a separate page is a bridge too far for most users.
• Quality of the targets. They should be curated or selected. I'd like to see only scientifically oriented pages/sites. Otherwise it will become clutter that's no better than an in-lined Google search. Maybe a form to email the webmaster with a suggested new link. Maybe a committee of power users to decide which links to add/remove.
• Links that depend on Classification will have some drawbacks:
  • Classification is not automated, i.e., it must be entered manually. IF & MB are not reliable on classificaiton.
  • I suspect that most MO Names lack Classifications. (But I'm getting funny counts when I query the db.)
