Known problems in JavaBayes
Fabio Cozman
First, note that most implementations of the Java
Virtual Machine in some bugs that must be tolerated.
Some known examples are listed here.
The Symantec Cafe 1.51 Java virtual machine does not
do a good job at sizing and displaying dialogs; in fact sometimes
it shows two dialogs instead of one (!).
Earlier versions of the JVM for SGIs must have a CLASSPATH
variable correctly set at all times; otherwise the whole Java
interpreter may dump core.
In many JVMs (e.g., some of the versions of Netscape's JVM),
there is an incompatibility between Java 1.0.2 and Java 1.1.2.
Classes compiled for Java 1.0.2 may hang Java interpreters
running 1.1.2; likewise, Java 1.1.2 code does not normally run
in a Java 1.0.2 interpreter.
It is also hard to keep track of all different situations where
the applet does not work, but it has been impossible to find
situations that can be easily duplicated. Sometimes a windows
does not open, or the system crashes, etc.
Now, some known bugs that I should correct:
- Too many digits are displayed in the Java 1.2 interpreters,
as they (correctly) display doubles in full precision.
- It seems that circles appears somewhat blocky in Java 1.2,
and the dialogs appear with awful white margins. I do not
know how to correct that.
- It seems that the interface is not as intuitive as it
should be, but changing things is kind of hard. The program
should indicate the file that is being worked on, there should
be pull down menus with most frequently used options.
