Describe the issue/problem and steps to reproduce

This camera literally released couple days ago and I already tested it with motion on RPi.

/dev/video0 - exist

The "motion" app shows grey screen with text in top-left corner "UNABLE TO OPEN VIDEO DEVICE"

Worked great with same config and IMX477. I assume this is app incompatibility problem on that 4.3.2 version which available in RPi repo.

Probably need to use libcamerify since the distro got rid of MMAL....also

This message means a different application has the camera open so may want to reboot.

I noticed that error but checked with 'lsof | grep video'. No output. Which means that the camera is not busy with other processes or apps.

how to install this libcamerify on the RPi ? I couldn't find it in repo.

Didn't see this follow up question.

The error message is coming from the kernel so I'm inclined to believe that something has it open even it it is a different instance of Motion. The package libcamera-tools has the libcamerify.

Hi.
I do have the same problem here. If I try for example libcamera-hello, no problem. I open motion, which says the camera is busy. Then I try again libcamera-hello, which complain the camera is busy. Turn off motion, then everything ok for libcamera or something else.

The config file have this line : netcam_url v4l2:///dev/video0

And apparently, communication between the camera and motion is not a problem.

Yes did it but even with libcamerify motion it does not work. Everything else in this thread is ok.

Instead of using the v4l2 via the ffmpeg/netcam_url option, try using the video_device option of Motion.

Yes, should be the default according to https://motion-project.github.io/motion_config.html#video_device ; but, strangely (I copy past the «video_device» so there is no mispell) I get this error :

[0:motion] [ALR] [ALL] conf_cmdparse: Unknown config option "video_device"

I just have to write it like video_device /dev/video0 right ? No space before and none after.

By the way, I have 2 config files : /etc/motion/motion.conf and /etc/motion/conf.d/camera-0.conf
The video_device (and before the netcam_url ) are set into camera-0.conf
