mCar doesn't move on pen down (but does on pen up?) when playing svg

My mCar will move and draw when manually moved with mDraw, but when I load an svg the car only moves when the pen is up. Once the pen is down, there is no movement? (on mDraw it shows the bot moving on the svg, and I see commands being sent on the serial port...)
