One of the conclusions from [Di Fabio Rocca et al. 2021] is that it is important that the origin of samples (museums, collections) as well as the justification of ethnonyms and the status of collaborative efforts with community members needs to be explicitly stated in research articles.
I think we should add some sentences about this into our section 1, i.e. that it is not just important to talk to communities and, but also to write about these efforts in the paper!
Furthermore, accuracy should also be addressed regarding some other ethical concerns, as is the case of information on the custody of archaeological human remains and the corresponding permits for genetic analysis. We found that in many cases such information was omitted and in others it was only included in the acknowledgements, instead of being part of the main text. Additionally, this situation con- trasts with the highly precise information available regarding other as- pects of the analyzed samples, such as dating and geographic location. We agree with all ethical recommendations associated with the need to handle human remains with due respect, and we also understand that such respect can be shown in different ways depending on the diversity of researchers and the social context in which they perform, among other qualities. Yet, we advocate that such procedures, along with other ethical considerations, should always be made explicit in the articles.
