Introduction
=============
giis-ext4 is designed to protect certain important directories/files on linux systems that
are using the ext4 filesystem.
Dependencies
=============
The binary installation of giis-ext4 has only one dependency. This is:
sqlite3
Using Ubuntu this can be installed by running the command
sudo apt-get install sqlite3
Using Fedora this can be installed by running the command
sudo yum install sqlite
The source installation of giis-ext4 also has very few dependencies. These are:
pkg-config
sqlite3
libsqlite3-dev
e2fslibs-dev
Using Ubuntu these can be installed by running the command
sudo apt-get install sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev e2fslibs-dev pkg-config
Using Fedora this can be installed by running the command
sudo yum install sqlite sqlite-devel pkgconfig e2fsprogs-devel e2fsprogs-libs
Installation general
=====================
Installation of giis-ext4 will need root privileges. You should follow these
steps for both binary and source installation.
Download the tar file into your home directory
wget http://www.giis.co.in/giis/giis-ext4.tar
Extract the tar file into your home directory, which will create a new
directory called giis-ext4
tar -xvf giis-ext4.tar
Change to the newly created directory
cd giis-ext4
Installation of binary
=======================
These instructions follow on from Installation General. To install giis-ext4
binary, run the following commands:
Ubuntu
sudo sh install_giis_ext4.sh
Fedora
su -
sh install_giis_ext4.sh
This script will place the binary in /usr/bin and create the /usr/local/giis/
working directory structure and files.
Installation from source
=========================
These instructions follow on from Installation General. To compile and install
giis-ext4 from the source code, run the following commmands:
Method:1
========
cd src
Ubuntu
sudo gcc `pkg-config --libs ext2fs sqlite3` giis-ext4.c -o giis-ext4 && mv giis-ext4 /usr/bin/
Fedora
su
gcc `pkg-config --libs ext2fs sqlite3` giis-ext4.c -o giis-ext4 && mv giis-ext4 /usr/bin/
Method:2
=======
make
mv giis-ext4 /usr/bin
This will compile giis-ext4 and move the newly created binary into /usr/bin/
giis-ext4 configuration
========================
Once you have succuessfully installed giis-ext4 from either the binary or source
code, you need to configure it.
Run the following command as root to configure which directories to protect, how
many levels of directory and how often to look for changes.
giis-ext4 --install
Running giis-ext4 --help will give you more details.
