Can Linear Acceleration work with Creality v4.4.2 A4988 Stepper Drivers? #2021
-
Total newbie. (I've had my Ender 3 v2 for about two months now.) I see the new JYers Enhanced Version with Linear Advance codebase out. I was surprised to see Linear Advance, because I thought, from (old?) Klipper documentation, that LA did not work with "Standalone" drivers. But now I see Klipper - and Marlin - saying that LA can work with Standalone drivers using spreadCycle. Anyway, all the literature that I've read so far talks about LA on TMC drivers. But my Creality Ender 3 v2 v4.2.2 board has the A4988 on it. (Which, if I have it correct, it the norm starting about 1Q of 2022.) As an experiment, I compiled the firmware with LA enabled and the A4988's selected. I figured that, if this was a bad combination, I would see a Warning. But no Warning. I haven't installed the firmware with LA enabled because I don't know what to look for to know if it's working. And I don't want to destroy my Extruder stepper motor if not compatible with the A4988. Nor did I see anything about using the A4988 in this Discussion: Does anyone know for sure if it will work? Documentation or have tried it yourself? |

I tried it. Yes, it works on my A4988. It makes me giggle to watch the Extruder wiggle. Hint: Don't use Gyroid infill with LA enabled, because it makes your Extruder work harder. And disable Coasting, if you use it in Cura. And it is said that you might be able to lower your Retraction Distance. |
