Overview of feature request

In Islandora Legacy/7.x the Book Solution Pack had a feature to select LtoR or RtoL for page progression. From what I can tell, this hasn't been implemented in Islandora, and I'm not seeing an issue for it.

What kind of user is the feature intended for?

  • Collections Manager

What inspired the request?

  • York University's migration of our "Rare classic Chinese literature" collection.

Any brand new behavior do you want to add to Islandora?

I think this should be fairly straight forward if I'm understanding it all correctly. I was thinking a possible solution could be adding viewingDirection here, and using a variable from a field value of a given object. I admit this approach probably naive based on a lack of where exactly this viewingDirection variable would come from. Would it be a new field? Or something else? If it's a new field, does that need to standardized value across implementations. If so, I'm not sure what the process is for that nowadays. Before I or anybody from my institution moves forward on some work on this, I'd like some community guidance on the best way to proceed here. Thanks! 🙏

Any related open or closed issues to this feature request?

Not that I can tell.
