Evaluate usefulness of various icon sizes

Currently there are 5 different icon sizes for every single icon, 16px, 24px, 32px, 64px, and 128px. In #18 there started a conversation about the usefulness of every step along the way and finding a middle ground between having super legible icons and the general maintainability of the project.

I think it would be interesting to know what sizes of icons various projects are using. In my current one, I'm using 24px and 32px only with no duplication of the named icon (ie both a 24px and a 32px of the same icon). There is also an illustration that uses the bigger icons for a hero image but I'm not sure which sizes were used sense I didn't compose it myself.
