Trying to get gtklock running on hyprland

I'm trying to swap from hyprlock to gtklock currently as I want something that's more sleek/clean looking. I've installed gtklock through pacman and I've added a line to hyprland.conf:

$LOCKSCREEN = gtklock

However, even after saving and a reboot, the lock screen is still set to hyprlock. Am I just in the wrong config file?

Also yes, I'm using the HyDE presets straight from the git install. Nothing's been changed aside from some keybindings to make it feel more like hyprdots which I just converted from.

As explained on the config ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf add overrides on ~/.config/hypr/hyde.conf

Can you explain more ? lockscreen.sh will try to call the program you added in $LOCKSCREEN. Therefore, key binds should work.

Setting as bind

1. yay -S gtklock
2. edit ~/.config/hypr/hyde.conf
   
3. SUPER + L should work

1. edit ~/.config/hypr/hypridle.conf and ensure that you have $LOCKSCREEN=lockscreen.sh reboot and should work. hypridle handles the lockscreen call on suspend/hibernate.

Ah, I was editing hyprland.conf and not hyde.conf, that was the issue it seems.

Also yeah I like the sleekness of gtklock, will pobably try to make a nice rice for this lockscreen at some point.

Here are some tips, you can use :
wall.set to use the current wallpaper

gtklock -b ~/.cache/hyde/wall.set

If I were trying to have the gtklock perform a similar action to, say, swaylock where it just applies a gaussian blur over my current wallpaper/containers/etc how would I go about that?

I don't know why you choose gtklock and yet not read any docs from them? Hyprlock and swaylock-effect, had the feature ootb. You should probably check if gtklock is capable of doing so.

Bonus tip, gtklock -b ~/.cache/hyde/wall.blur will give a blurred image of the wallpaper. Not perfect but at least.

Still a bit new to messing with linux/using github in general, wasn't really deep into coding outside of using SQL or Cisco IOS. Also when every developer has different formatting, sites used, styles of documentation it makes it a struggle to find the right info in my experiences so far.

Seems that the manual lock keybind brings me to gtklock, but the auto timeout takes me to hyprlock.

Where's the variable for the auto-timeout screen lock?

You should restart hypridle daemon/service. Or just reboot

hypridle is the package that handles the so-called timeout.

Sweet, that seemed to work. Now I just need to figure out where in the gtklock files I can set the wallpaper source.
