How to create a page with widgets?

I am trying to create a new page. However, on the documentation, I see only ways to create new widgets on the homepage. However, I would like to create a completely different page and then link it from the menu bar. For example, my site is www.example.com, I want to have another page name www.example.com/about and www.example.com/projects then on the menu bar I would have these two pages. Basically, I do not want my site to be a long list. I hope you can help me customize it. Thank you.
