Trying to use local font in custom css

I have a local font that I would like to use as a font-family in a custom css style.

I have my custom font in static/fonts/myfont.ttf, and my custom css in assets/scss/custom.scss where

 @font-face {
  font-family: "My font";
  src: url("fonts/myfont.ttf") format("truetype");
}

@mystyle {
font-family: "My font";
}

But when using mystyle style, it does not seem to work when building the site. Is it the wrong place where to put myfont.ttf ?

I made it work putting my font in static/css/fonts/myfont.ttf instead, but I am not sure it is the right way to go though.
