Bug description

It's somehow impossible to change the name of a space in app.gitbook.io. Gone through the docs and it's been no help at all.

How to reproduce

  1. Create a new space with the +
  2. New space titled Untitled is created
  3. Try to change it, it's impossible
  4. Duplicate the space, it's titled Copy of Untitled
  5. Try to change it, also impossible

Additional context

Trying to change it by creating a doc is also no use. The name changes from the docs do not propagate to the space. This new docs and spaces distinction and ux is really not the best.

Hi @extemporary - you can change the name of a space by clicking the title in the header of the space you’re in - so for example, where your space says “Untitled”, you can update the name from there!

@addisonschultz Which header? Do you mean the header in the page in the space? That thing, like the docs customization, is completely disconnected from the name of the space itself. Changing either leaves the name of the space, the thing that shows in the left sidebar, completely unaffected.

I've clicked every title and more throughout the app. Changing the name is so far impossible. If this option is hiding somewhere, it's really bad ux because the space action menu has easily seen Copy, Duplicate, and Delete options but no Rename.

@extemporary you’ll find it in the space header - here’s the UI Glossary where you can find it: https://docs.gitbook.com/resources/gitbook-ui#space-overview-and-space-header

Basically in the screenshot here, clicking into the part that says “JetSream Docs” will allow you to change the name of the space

@addisonschultz That doesn't work. Neither "Jetstream Docs" is clickable. In fact, when the space name is Untitled or Copy of Untitled in the sidebar, the lower "Jetstream Docs" doesn't even exist.

Only the "Product Docs" from the screenshot is clickable, but that goes to the docs settings and those are completely disconnected from the space. Nothing that is changed there propagates to the space name. Live Edit mode changes nothing. Change Request mode makes the upper "Jetstream Docs" clickable, but all it does is exit Change Request mode. Logging out, clearing the cache, and changing browsers does nothing. Can a simple Rename option in the space action menu just be added?

Looking at the underlying HTML, I now see the bug. When a new space is created, directly or through a "Docs site", the input that should contain the lower "Jetstream Docs" is styled width: 0px, making it impossible to click and change. This carries over when the space is duplicated.

Manually altering the width makes it clickable and finally changeable. This obvious bug aside, there should a Rename option in the space action menu

I’m not able to reproduce the bug of having the width at 0px - can you share a recording or more details on the browser you are using?

That being said the rename action in the action menu does sound like a good addition. I’ll add a ticket for this

more details on the browser you are using?

Brave, strict shields setting. This has been happening for over a year btw, but I only just recently discovered there was a github to report it
