About Hamad International Airport (DOH | OTHH)

Hamad International Airport is Qatar's only international airport. It is operated by Qatar Airways and also serves as their hub. The Construction began in 2005 only 5km (3.1 mi) east of the older Doha International Airport which had reached its capacity limits.

In 2016 the airport handled 37.3 million passengers and 245,800 landings. Hamad International Airport is also used for cargo operations with 1.7 million tones in 2016.

Airspace

The class B airspace of the Doha Approach Sector encompasses a large area around Doha up to FL245. To the west and southwest it borders the Jeddah FIR (OEJD), to the southeast the Emirates FIR (OMAE) and to the north the Bahrain FIR (OBBB) which also covers the airspace above the Doha Approach airspace (FL245+). Of unique note here is the location of Doha International Airport (OTBD), located 3.50km (2.18 mi) west of OTHH, which should not be mistaken with Hamad International Airport.

Runways

OTHH has two runways, built 2km (1.2mi) appart, which are designed for simultaneous take-offs and landings. The eastern runway (34R/16L) is 4,850 m × 60 m (15,910 ft × 200 ft) and is the longest runway in Western Asia, and also one of the longest runways in the world. The western runway (34L/16R) is 4,250 m × 60 m (13,940 ft × 200 ft). During dual runway operations operations both runways are used for departures and landings.

Instrument Procedures

Hamad International Airport has various instrument departures and standard terminal arrival routes. The procedure's suffix indicates the assigned runway: C stands for runway 16R, E for 34R, M for 16L and W for 34L.
