In the MPM repository the word sharding (and shards) is used to describe the database setup with a single core database and multiple databases for companies.

This is misleading and inconsistent as sharding generally describes the process of storing data across multiple tables.

What we really implement here is called multi-tenancy. With a core-database and multiple tenant-databases.
