Predicting host states using microbial traits

I have interest in this one (duh), but for those who are also interested--

I have some captive/wild data of amphibians.
Also, there is a collection of data from https://academic.oup.com/icb/article/57/4/690/4077014
that looks at the effect of captivity on the gut microbiome.
Questions that I'm thinking might be interesting:

PREDICTING CAPTIVE/WILD

  • How accurately can we predict whether something is captive or wild? (I expect it to be quite easy)
  • When an individual is diseased, how much does this decrease accuracy?
  • What host characters (age, sex, disease state, etc) most obscure effects of captivity on the host microbiome?

PREDICTING DISEASE

  • What are signatures of disease in microbiome traits?
  • Can you predict the likelihood of becoming diseased from your microbiome?
