There are a number of conversations going on in Slack, and here on Github (eg: #1 and DoESLiverpool/covid19#47) , about adding more content to the ppe.doesliverpool.com site.

If we add new content (likely as new pages) I think this is a good opportunity to take stock of what the site is about now (a lot has changed in the 7 days since it was designed!) and which information / resources different users will be interested in, so they can all find what they need as quickly as possible.

I’ve been sketching out what I think the different needs are on the site. @afroleft how does this look to you? Have I missed anything?

  1. Everyone:
    • 💬 "I don’t know anything about this, but I want to help"
    • 💬 "I don’t know anything, but I want to know more"
      • ➡️ Read more about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it (essentially the text content that’s currently on the homepage—which was originally ripped from the crowdfunder description—potentially updated to include some of the new generic information from How to get involved #1, and maybe a team list / org chart as per Process map & who’s who covid19#47)
    • 💬 "I want to help, but I’m not technical"
  2. Makers & manufacturing professionals: manufacturers:
  3. Medical Healthcare workers:
  4. Press
    • 💬 "I want to write a story about you"
      • ➡️ download our one-pager
    • 💬 "I’m a lazy churnalist who just wants to copy previous stories"

Make sense.

A couple of bits I'd reframe and why:

  1. Makers & manufacturing professionals: Makers & Manufacturers
  2. Medical professionals Healthcare Workers. Medical just doctors in healthcare world
  3. Would be great if we can continue to feature press logos on landing page as it substantiates what we’re doing.
  4. "I need to know more about the visors you’re producing" ➡️ read our visor FAQ (Create a "visor FAQ" to answer medical professionals’ questions about our visors #3) wondering whether to call that the product section. Product images, testimonials, photos and FAQ can all live there. Thoughts?

Rest reads well and would make it much easier for peeps to get to what they want quicker.

All excellent points @afroleft. I’ll get cracking on this.

The new homepage layout (#4) has now been deployed. I made a few decisions that should help us expand to multiple pages more easily:

  1. Logo is no longer in the middle of the nav bar, so there’s more space for future links up there if we want to do that.
  2. Big buttons down the right-hand side hopefully let us link to subpages in an intuitive way.
  3. Homepage is already tall and thin, so can grow vertically a bit more if we want to add more sections (eg: a "For journalists" section).

I’m going to consider this ticket closed for now. We can open new tickets for future improvements.

@zarino - posted up on this awesome work. Tiny things. It doesn't seem to have a pic on Twitter and it would be great if we could sort the PEE thing 😆

@ajlennon I think that "PEE" title has either been cached by Twitter or by your device. "PEE" doesn’t appear in the source code for that page any more, and when I run https://ppe.doesliverpool.com through https://cards-dev.twitter.com/validator, I get the correct title:

(I’ve also—just now—fixed the social meta tags, so that the image gets properly displayed on Facebook and Twitter. So, thanks for pointing out that it was broken ;-) )
