Once an election has passed, it remains 'current' everywhere unless manually marked as 'not current'. If they aren't marked they hang around in places - most obviously on the front page of YNR. I mark by-elections as 'not current' in EE whenever I remember.
Elections should be auto-marked as 'not current' after a period of time. I suggest one month (I think this used to happen but doesn't any more?).
I don't know what happens with scheduled elections. Maybe @symroe marks them in bulk?
