Have you tried running any other apps that still use the old XEmbed status icon API? (TBH I don't even know whether there are any apps remaining)... Either way, I don't think deadbeef itself has anything too do with it.. It's not like it does its own system tray code, it just uses GTK to do everything, and to my best knowledge this code didn't change for a decade.
Steps to reproduce the problem
When launching the application on Ubuntu, the tray icon has a black box around it:
EDIT: To add, I'm also using the Dash to Panel extension that creates a Windows-like panel, and that's showing the tray icons.
Information about the software:
Deadbeef version: 1.9.6
OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Wayland, GNOME 46)
