Here's another relatively simple way to open up some options for Delta family. A 1.875m adapter tank, not unlike the one for Delta III. It would keep the same overall volume (being taller to compensate), but with a 1.875m top.
The idea is to create something like the core for Wide-body Delta from this graphic (which already gave us the double adapter): https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=40733.0;attach=1415931;image
The upper stage seems like it'd be something like Gamma or Baby Centaur, either way, something that can already be put together. The fairing should be the same as 2.5m DCSS, maybe it could be added to the already ahistorical Atlas fairing boattail.
