Portal UI: synonyms

Karen: · Keywords are a bit of a mess…lots of synonyms (e.g. United States vs US). Can this be reconciled to some ontology? Can it be turned into an autocompleting text box?

Steps: 1) for more frequent keywords - may need to do it manually;

2. there are remaining ontology imperfections in CINERGI facets as well. For example: feature - hydrologic feature - body of water, and also water body. They should be synonyms in the ontology.

Similar issues from Karen:
o Nutrient is a folder under biological material. But nutrients are chemical measures.
o Messy list: chemical substance and chemical are separate. Rock material and mineral are separate.
o Does Material really give you anything that Domain does not? Answer: Yes, it goes deeper. So this is useful to have.
