Description

Hi, I'm the maintainer of the ibus-chewing input method. I recently got user report that phrase candidate selection window does not show up properly in Budgie. After some investigation I found this is related to how Budgie starts ibus-daemon.

This was also previously reported to ibus and solus-project/budgie

  1. Ibus input window does not display using Budgie desktop environment ibus/ibus#2038
  2. Broken Budgie keyboard indicator settings and missing Chinese popups after Ibus installation solus-project/budgie-desktop#729

Please consider retest the solution and remove the --panel disable startup option, or make it configurable.

Budgie version

10.9.1

Operating System

EndeavourOS Galileo Neo 2024

Steps to reproduce the issue

  1. Install ibus and ibus-chewing
  2. Add Chewing as input source
  3. Relogin
  4. Open text editor
  5. Type <Super>+<Space>
  6. Type hk4g4
  7. Type <Down>

Actual result

Zero visual feedback.

Expected result

A candidate select window should pop-up.

Issues I raised in PR #168 have yet to be addressed (PR introduces regression with switching layouts and presenting invalid ones). Once the PR is fixed and lands, ibus-daemon will no longer be executed with the panel disable command.
