latest version 4.0.8 breaks our java 8 project compilation

I see that you have introduced java 11 in your pipeline , for sake of semver , I would have expected a minor (4.1.0) or major (5.0.0) version bump to the library as opposed to a patch version

You're right. I think at first it might have been compatible with 8 - but of course now java 11isms are creeping in.
