I am literally a developer running a beta build of an app that should have contributed substantially to the power draw, and I can check ~logs if you want to double check that my app was doing substantial activity in the background. (I was runnibg a TestFlight build of the beiwe-ios app that you should be able to find on github, and of which I am the primary developer. I have had to do battery usage tests of that app due to uts heavy use of onboard sensors and gps.)

attributing battery draw to a specific application can be real difficult, but I think this is about as close as you can get on this platform.

My email is my username at that company that starts with a G and has a very common email platform, feel free to contact me out of band to confirm or do a video/phone call.

Expected

(Required)
Less battery use while actively editing a simplenote text document with an on-screen software keyboard.

Observed

(Required)
Substantial battery drain directly attributable to editing a simplenote document. Observed was ~68%-19% in one hour.

Reproduced

(Required)
Edit a document for one hour, observe battery life use. (worst. reproduction. directions. ever. amirite?)

(Optional) If applicable, add screenshots, animations, or videos to help illustrate your problem.

(Optional) If you reproduced the bug on a specific device, please replace DEVICE_MAKE, DEVICE_MODEL, IOS_VERSION, and APP_VERSION below with the details for that device. If you reproduced the bug on multiple devices, please add a row for each device.

App version: 4.55
ios: 18.1.1

This is on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

  • Device is one year and one month old, purchased new.
  • Except for the first month of use the battery has been run with the 80% charge limit to extend the aging characteristics of the battery.
  • Among apple's phones this device has a high (good) battery-to-active-power- draw ratio. ~40% in an hour is Very high.
  • Based on possible overlap with the bordering hours from that screenshot I would estimate the lower bound for use within the hour is like 35%. Could be wrong, don't think I am.
  • Device has an OLED screen (but double check that), means dark pixels use less power.
  • App is in black mode with white text.
  • Keyboard is also basically black.
  • Not using any ai assist features.
  • device had very good wifi signal, no long running network operations keeping wifi active.
  • Did not use dictation
  • Normal background device activity - messages etc.
  • Writing something for a full hour period that covered the battery monitor's selectable periodicity.
