Automatic web UI is not loading SDXL-VAE model

Hi team,

I'm trying to load sdxl_vae.safetensors in web ui. For this, I followed below steps:

1. Downloaded the VAE model from https://huggingface.co/stabilityai/sdxl-vae/blob/main/sdxl_vae.safetensors - https://huggingface.co/stabilityai/sdxl-vae/blob/main/sdxl_vae.safetensors
2. Clicked Settings -> User Interface -> Quicksettings list -> Added sd_vae
3. Clicked Apply settings, and then Reload UI.

After this, the vae dropdown got added as shown in the below image & I can see the model in the dropdown list but whenever I'm selecting the sdxl_vae.safetensors & then clicking on Refresh button, it's loading the None option automatically. Are the above steps correct to load the variational autoencoder models in automatic webui or am I doing something wrong here?

yes and no. its very finicky. so basically i keep 2 versions of a1111. one setup for sd one for sdxl\pony. because it can be a pain to get it to work, but once it does, it remembers. switching between VAE ruins it, hence keeping 2 versions.

dont reload ui. close everything. the cmd prompt and the browser after each change. click onconvert vae to 32bit floats in vae settings. not in the txt2img etc window!! NEVER for sdxl!

anyway set the vae and that 32bit option in the settings, save it, close everything. relaunch a1111. try to generate something.. see if it works. if not, change your checkpoint (this forces it to reload it, else it will use bad memory of it not working). go back to the settings and click on convert to 16bit. close and relaunch. test it again.

keep doing this mockery until it works. then put an image in img2img and verify that works too. dont forget to change checkpoints so it reloads them properly and not keep getting stuck with bad loads.

it will work eventually. a111 is very finicky with sdxl in general. sdxl is very finicky in general. good luck
